CAREER ADVANCEMENT EDITION
Figuring out what you want in life is hard. It's even harder when you don't know where to start. Across America, 45 percent of workers say they are either satisfied or extremely satisfied with their jobs. Only 20 percent feel very passionate about their jobs. 33 percent believe they have reached a dead-end in their career. 21 percent are eager to change careers.
They say to achieve your dream life and career, you should align your values and goals to work in a field you’re passionate about. But how do you do it?
Alignment is the bridge between where you are and where you want to be. It's the process of creating congruence between your internal beliefs and your external behaviors. When your values, goals, and actions are aligned, you'll experience a sense of certainty and confidence that will help propel you toward your dreams.
By discovering and living your values, you give yourself a roadmap for creating the life you want. Values-based living means that everything in your life, from the big things like relationships and career to the small things like how you spend your free time, is aligned with who you are at your core.
Kimberly Spencer is an award-winning high-performance coach and trainer. She's the founder and CEO of Crown Yourself, and she's been on NPR, CNBC, Forbes, as well as a TEDx speaker.

S1 EP110: Landing Your Dream Job as a Nontraditional Candidate with Anthony Mays
Wednesday Mar 30, 2022
Wednesday Mar 30, 2022
CAREER ADVANCEMENT EDITION
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, demand for jobs has skyrocketed while job losses are mounting. In this competitive job market, job seekers have their work cut out for them-especially women, who lost the most jobs in December 2020 according to the aforementioned analysis by the National Women's Law Center (NWLC). The challenges faced by BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and disabled candidates are even greater.
Pew reports that Black workers constitute just 5% of engineering and architecture jobs in the United States, and women comprise only 1% of engineering and computer science graduates. Meanwhile, STEM professionals experience a larger gender pay gap than other types of professions - and Pew notes that this gap is still growing today.
Coming from an underrepresented community, Anthony Mays knows what it’s like to compete for a position in Silicon Valley. Anthony came from foster care in Compton, experienced physical and sexual abuse, dealt with bullying excessively in elementary school, and more. Through it all, Anthony went to a great university studying computer science and eventually worked at Google for 8 years.
How did Anthony go from Compton to Google?
Join us as Anthony shares his life story, his unlikely path to becoming the 1% at Google, how he battled imposter syndrome growing up, and how he overcame high expectations in the tech space. With hosts, wealth manager Lee Michael Murphy, career advisor Sergio Patterson, and attorney Matthew McElroy tune in to this week’s episode of The Free Retiree Show.

S1 EP109: The 6 Components to Becoming an Elite Leader with Julie Hruska
Wednesday Mar 23, 2022
Wednesday Mar 23, 2022
BUSINESS & THOUGHT LEADER EDITION
People tend to think leaders are born rather than made. However, leaders are no different from athletes. Even though some athletes have natural talents, it's their commitment to working on their craft every day that gets them to the top. Leaders may have innate talents - perhaps a higher EQ is one example - but everyone can develop the leadership skills necessary to perform at the highest level.
It can be difficult to pin down a simple definition of elite leadership, but we all know it when we see it.
What exactly defines an elite leader? How do they distinguish themselves from the rest of us?
Their mindset determines their success. There is a remarkable clarity about winning among elite leaders - for the company, for the team, and for themselves. Elite leaders have a constant drive to achieve their goals and reach the defined destination.
Their focus on winning revolves around having integrity between their words and their actions as well as their relationships with others. From moment to moment, it manifests itself in behaviors, choices, and decisions that benefit others rather than just themselves.
For Julie Hruska, elite leadership has six components that make them what they are: ENVISION, ENLIST, EMBODY, EMPOWER, EVALUATE, ENCOURAGE.
What separates elite leaders from bad leaders? Integrity, where their words and their actions align. People have become so jaded in the world and make promises that are empty and they don't keep. If you think about legendary leaders, they’re people that set a vision and then they honor that, they follow it through, and they become role models for other people.
Join us as Julie discusses who elite leaders are, their characteristics, and six components that make up the E6 Leadership Framework. With hosts, wealth manager Lee Michael Murphy, career advisor Sergio Patterson, and attorney Matthew McElroy tune in to this week’s episode of The Free Retiree Show.

CAREER ADVANCEMENT EDITION
Adversity occurs to all of us, but some of us are able to thrive when things get tough, while others seem to have a hard time getting up in the morning.
All successful people have faced challenges and setbacks because anything worth doing is going to be difficult. Greatness is a result of overcoming adversity. A successful person has learned to navigate around obstacles that would stop others completely.
Why do some people bounce back from misfortune and defeat and find a way to overcome them? For one thing, they don't let negative emotions or thoughts overwhelm them. When they have processed what has happened, they resume moving forward. Instead of dwelling in despair, their mental fortitude lifts them up to seek out opportunities.
Philosopher Edmund Burke said, “He that wrestles with us strengthens our nerves and sharpens our skill. Our antagonist is our helper.” We all need to grow against life's worthy antagonist - life. You are able to embrace adversity as a helper when you know how to overcome it, instead of letting it stop you from reaching your goals.
Corrie LoGiudice is the perfect example of a person who has overcome multiple adversities in life but was even able to turn her life around to become successful. She takes extraordinary action, regardless of her circumstances.
Join us as Corrie shares her life story and how she overcame major adversities in life, bounced back, and started her own business to spend more time with her son. She also discusses the value of being present in contributing to success. Even when the task at hand is important, we can all use a little help sometimes. Artificial intelligence is becoming increasingly popular at work when an extra pair of hands is needed.
Computers can simulate human intelligence using artificial intelligence, or AI, and AI is everywhere. In today's world, artificial intelligence is used in everything from factory automation to self-driving cars.
Among the many applications of AI technology, one of the most promising is in helping business professionals become more productive.
How does AI increase productivity? AI used in the workplace does not mean that you or your team members will be replaced. The goal is to help you to free up some of your time for more interesting and productive tasks. Even though AI tools seem simple, their technology can be very complex.
AI technology comes in many forms, each with its own industry applications. In terms of workplace productivity, these three factors are most critical: Automation, Machine Learning, and Natural Language Processing.
Curious about how to save more time and get more done with AI automation? Join us with Instarel.ai CEO Thomas Helfrich as he discusses what AI essentially is, how automation can greatly benefit social presence, and more. MONEY MANAGEMENT EDITION
Following the Covid-19 pandemic, global markets took a significant hit. Seeing the daily decline in investments, many investors sold their investments, hoping to avoid any more losses. However, the markets recovered just as quickly. Therefore, their losses became permanent.
Investors have behaved in a similar manner before. And this definitely will not be the last time. What causes us to behave this way in such situations? Our biases are to blame.
Traditionally, most conventional economic theories assumed people are rational and would consider all available information when making a decision, thereby overlooking a crucial element of human behavior.
In the last 30 years, a lot of work has been done on this subject suggesting that we are all emotionally driven and biased in our thinking. Occasionally, these biases interfere with our ability to make effective financial decisions.
How do you avoid these biases and avoid putting your hard-earned money at risk?
Join us as Dr. Ryan Peckham from the University of Texas discuss behavioral psychology, including the top biases that affect investors’ financial decisions. How does the behavior of investors benefit or hinder their investment decisions? With hosts, wealth manager Lee Michael Murphy, career advisor Sergio Patterson, and attorney Matthew McElroy tune in to this week’s episode of The Free Retiree Show.

It's likely that you settled down because it was convenient, stable, and offered some decent benefits, no matter what the circumstances are.

S1 EP103: The 7 Types of Bad Investors with Lee Michael Murphy

Wednesday Feb 09, 2022
AVOIDING THE BIG MISTAKES EDITION
It is common for people to believe they possess the character to be successful investors. Moreover, many also unconsciously possess the traits that make them bad investors, which can cause them to lose money on investments.
When it comes to trading or investing, making mistakes is part of the learning process. Stocks, exchange-traded funds, and other securities are typically held by investors for a longer period of time. The average trader buys and sells futures and options, holds those positions for a shorter period of time, and is involved in more transactions.
Despite using different types of trading transactions, investors commit detrimental mistakes that can make or break their long-term gains.
Join us as wealth manager Lee Michael Murphy discusses the seven types of bad investors with career advisor Sergio Patterson and attorney Matthew McElroy. Tune in to this week’s episode of The Free Retiree Show.
